I never thought I’d be an artist
It’s been a rare day that I haven’t painted or done some type of art. Let me step back just a bit. I grew up playing sports, goofing off, or watching TV. I didn’t grow up having an instinct to draw, paint, or create. No, I wanted to run and play.
In January 2020, I signed up for an online calligraphy course that lasted 6 months. At the end of the course I had the opportunity to participate in a very introductory online watercolor class. What the heck, I’ll try. I bought the supplies and thought this could be fun. Oh my! Wetting paint, watching the movement on the palette and then the paper, and mixing colors. This is amazing.
Move on to brush strokes, thick and thin lines, pressure, release. Leaves, C curves, shapes, thick, thin, and more colors. A rose and a peony emerged. These were not my best flowers. What is on your first try? But that’s ok. This is when a love of watercolor painting began.
It is a rare day I don’t paint something. Now I paint on paper, bottles, ceramics, metal, and I am still discovering new surfaces and techniques. And all this began in my mid-50s. If I can learn, so can you.
Thank you for visiting my site, I appreciate it.
